چکیده

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) transmission technique is gaining popularity as a preferred technique in the emerging broadband wireless access standards. Motivated by the OFDMA transmission technique we define the following problem: Let M be a matrix (over R) of size a × b. Given a vector of non-negative integers ~ C = 〈c1, c2, . . . , cb〉 such that ∑ cj = a, we would like to allocate a cells in M such that (i) in each row of M there is a single allocation, and (ii) for each element ci ∈ ~ C there is a unique column in M which contains exactly ci allocations. Our goal is to find an allocation with minimal value, that is, the sum of all the a cells of M which were allocated is minimal. The nature of Preprint submitted to Elsevier September 14, 2008 the suggested new problem is investigated in this paper. Efficient algorithms are suggested for some interesting cases. For other cases of the problem, NP-hardness proofs are given followed by inapproximability results.

Explicit Stiffness of Tapered and Monosymmetric i Beam-Columns

A formulation for finite element analysis of tapered and  monosymmetric I shaped beam-columns is presented. This is a general way to analyze these types of complex elements. Based upon the formulation, member stiffness matrix is obtained explicitly. The element considered has seven nodal degrees of freedom. In addition, the related stability matrix is found. Numerical studies of the aforementio...

MIQR: A Multilevel Incomplete QR Preconditioner for Large Sparse Least-Squares Problems

This paper describes a Multilevel Incomplete QR (MIQR) factorization for solving large sparse least-squares problems. The algorithm builds the factorization by exploiting structural orthogonality in general sparse matrices. At any given step, the algorithm finds an independent set of columns, i.e., a set of columns that have orthogonal patterns. The other columns are then block orthogonalized a...

Fixed-Parameter Tractability of the Simultaneous Consecutive Ones Submatrix & Editing Problems

A binary matrix has the consecutive ones property (C1P ) for rows (columns) if there is a permutation of its columns (rows) that arranges the ones consecutively in all the rows (columns). A binary matrix has the simultaneous consecutive ones property (SC1P ) if it has both the C1P for rows and columns. We consider the following two categories of problems: Simultaneous Consecutive Ones Submatrix...

A Dynamic Near-Optimal Algorithm for Online Linear Programming

We consider the online linear programming problem where the constraint matrix is revealed column by column along with the objective function. We provide a 1−o(1) competitive algorithm for this surprisingly general class of online problems under the assumption of random order of arrival and some mild conditions on the right-hand-side input. Our learning-based algorithm works by dynamically updat...

Probabilistic Matrix Addition

We introduce Probabilistic Matrix Addition (PMA) for modeling real-valued data matrices by simultaneously capturing covariance structure among rows and among columns. PMA additively combines two latent matrices drawn from two Gaussian Processes respectively over rows and columns. The resulting joint distribution over the observed matrix does not factorize over entries, rows, or columns, and can...
